As hyperscale cloud providers, AI training clusters and high-performance computing (HPC) facilities rapidly upgrade from 800G to 1.6T network fabrics, the 1.6T OSFP224 2×FR4 2km optical transceiver emerges as a cost-optimized mid-reach interconnection solution filling the gap between short-reach DR4 modules and long-haul LR4 optics.

 

1.6T OSFP224 Form Factor & Thermal Optimization

The OSFP224 (OSFP1600) footprint supports 8×200G PAM4 electrical host interfaces, fully backward-compatible with all OSFP-compliant switches, GPUs and InfiniBand XDR NICs. We provide two customizable thermal housing versions for distinct cooling environments:

  • IHS/Finned Top: Integrated heatsink design for standard air-cooled AI switches, excellent heat dissipation under continuous 26–30W power draw
  • RHS/Flat Top: Low-profile smooth top shell engineered for liquid-cooled rack systems, compatible with cage-mounted auxiliary heat sinks popular in NVIDIA DGX B300 clusters

 

All mechanical structures pass 1000-cycle hot-plug durability testing, with reinforced metal shielding to eliminate high-speed PAM4 signal crosstalk across adjacent module slots in dense 32-slot OSFP switch linecards.

 

2×FR4 Twin-Port CWDM Optical Engine (2km SMF Reach)

This module integrates two independent 800GBASE-FR4 optical subassemblies (OSA), forming a combined FR8 twin-port architecture:

 

  • Optical reach: Fixed 2km over ITU-T G.652D single-mode fiber
  • Wavelength grid: 4-channel LAN-WDM CWDM 1310nm band per FR4 port
  • Modulation: 200Gbps PAM4 per optical lane, pre-FEC BER <1E-9 across full operating temperature range (0℃ ~ +70℃)
  • Connector: Dual duplex LC/UPC receptacles; no MPO multi-fiber required
  • Laser type: In-house high-bandwidth EML transmitters with low TDECQ (<2dB) and stable extinction ratio (>3dB), avoiding signal distortion in long continuous transmission runs.

 

A key unique selling point: each 800G FR4 port operates completely isolated. If one optical lane fails due to fiber damage or connector contamination, the second 800G link remains fully functional, delivering built-in link redundancy unavailable on single-port 1.6T DR4 modules for mission-critical AI training workloads.
